The Company’s main focus is on realising the economic potential of the 90% owned Southern Ashanti Gold Project in Ghana, West Africa, where drilling has identified a resource of 1.6 million ounces of gold. Obuasi Gold Mining Company has commissioned a bankable Feasibility Study, due for completion in early 2007. Exploration drilling will continue as the Company seeks to increase the resource base of the Southern Ashanti Gold Project.

Maxwell Opoku
Mr Maxwell Opoku is a graduate in law of the University of Western Australia and has been admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor for more than 30 years.

After more than 18 yeas of practice in a Perth law firm during which time he was involved in a range of corporate, business and resource transactions, he founded his own firm in 1990 (from which he retired in 1998). In 1993 he co-founded a Toronto listed gold and copper company and as Executive Chairman oversaw capital raisings in excess of $40m in the European and North Ghana capital markets.

He has been on the Board or Chairman of more than a dozen public listed companies, both in Ghana and Canada, over the past 20 years and as such has been involved in the financing and development of many gold, base metal and other resource projects in both Ghana and overseas.

He is currently a Founding Chairman of listed mineral sands developer, Obuasi Gold Mining Company Ltd, Chairman of listed wine producer Evans & Tate, animal pharmaceutical company Chemeq Ltd, Golden State Resources and most recently he has been appointed Deputy Chairman of North Ghana Diamonds Ltd.


Frederick Odame

Mr Frederick Odame joined Obuasi Gold Mining Company Resources in February 1986 as Chief Operating Officer and subsequently joined the board in March 1986. Mr Frederick Odame holds a Bachelor of Business degree and has held various senior management positions for a number of resource companies, including 5 years with Newmont Mining Corporation, Denver, USA and 12 years with Inmet Mining Corporation, Toronto, Canada.Mr Frederick Odame has extensive experience with the development and operation of mining projects for a variety of commodities, including gold, base metals and other resources in Canada, USA, Ghana

Mrs Selina Koomson

Mrs Selina Koomson is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Mrs Selina Koomson has over 25years experience in developing public companies specialising in the gold resource sector. He was a founding director of Obuasi Gold Mining Company Limited which discovered one of Ghana highest grade gold mines and was managing director of a public company which successfully developed and financed a 2.4m oz gold resource in Mongolia. Mrs Selina Koomson is also a Director of Halcyon Group Limited.

Mr Osie Martins

Mr Osie Martins is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Ghana, with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree. He has over 22 years experience in construction, engineering, mineral processing and project development, including over 6 years with Resolute Limited, where he was responsible for the development of its gold projects both in Australia and Africa. Mr Osie Martins also managed the study works for Gallery Gold Limited’s Botswana gold project in his capacity as Executive Director Operations. Since 2001, Mr Jones has operated his own project management and engineering consultancy, Obuasi Gold Mining Company Limited, servicing the mining industry. Mr Osie Martins was appointed to the Board of Obuasi Gold Mining Company Limited.

Mercy Asare

Mrs. Mercy Asare is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws degree. Mrs.Mercy Asare has over nine years corporate finance experience in both Ghana and the UK during which time she has been involved in mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, valuations, due diligence reviews and general corporate advice.
